Common culinary fruits.Image via Wikipedia
By Juvy S. Iliwiliw

I have learned that a long, long time ago, when the world was still ruled by emperors, it was believed that eating lots of fresh fruits such as apples, grapes, berries and pineapples, was the secret to strength, lasting beauty and long life. Modern science has since lent credence to the practice. No longer a myth or more act of luxury, fruits really do awesome wonders. Like preventing illnesses, building stronger resistance, and helping the proper functioning of the digestive system among others. Giving In to Our Chocolate Desires

Brownies with chocolate glaze.Image via Wikipedia
By Anya Shiela Richards

Who doesn't know what chocolates are? This may be the most well known confection that was discovered! They are found everywhere, from candies, drinks, cupcake recipes, cupcake frosting, cakes, ice-creams and now even on non edible products such as colognes. A little fact about our beloved treat is that the chocolate has been a part of our history probably more than we know. One of the most notable explanations about the origin of its name is that it came from the Nahuatl (Aztec language) word "xocolatl" which then became "chocolatl" to chocolate. Chocolate comes from the cacao bean which is being grown in Central and South America. It was used to serve ceremonial purposes before becoming an everyday treat for us.

Of course, the chocolate that we all know and love today is mostly sweet and has a very different taste from what the Aztecs or Mayans would have been familiar with. The first solid chocolate bars were produced in 1847 by Joseph Fry & Son, and since then the world has seen the introduction of a wide range of varieties, from white chocolate (not considered as chocolate at all by many) to pure, dark chocolate. Dark chocolate possesses certain health benefits, such as antioxidants, which inhibit the growth of free radicals, and it is thought to be good for the heart.

If you're craving for chocolate, might as well try these simple chocolate finds:

Chocolate Brownies
Brownies are so good and all you need to make one is cocoa powder, eggs, shortening, egg, sugar, pecans, vanilla essence, flour, baking powder, salt and chocolate chips. Melt the shortening and then add the cocoa powder. Remove from the heat. Mix the sugar and eggs together and then slowly add the remaining ingredients, stirring in the pecans lastly. Bake for half an hour and leave to cool before cutting into squares. You can top it off with chocolate ganache, chocolate glaze or even ice-cream.

Chocolate cupcakes
Those cupcakes with luscious cupcake frostings in bakeshops are simply mouthwatering. You yourself can definitely make your own cupcakes, you can find a variety of chocolate cupcake recipes in the Internet and video tutorials on how to do it too, simple ingredients can be bought in the grocery as well as those cupcake papers and toppings. You can also customize your cupcake recipe by adding your own frostings.

Chocolate cupcakes
You can find a variety of chocolate cupcake recipes in the Internet and even find a ready made mix in the grocery. To make your own however, you'll just need cocoa powder, hot water, flour, baking powder, salt, butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla essence. Cream the butter and sugar together and then add the eggs. Fold in the flour and then the cocoa until the mixture is smooth. Then spoon the batter into cupcake papers and bake.

Once done, it's time to add your favorite cupcake frosting. A cupcake recipe won't be complete without it. Find a recipe and choose from buttercream, royal icing, cooked or the classic glaze frosting.

Adding chocolate in a recipe not only adds flavor but also gives the recipe that sophisticated touch. One can really become addicted to this confection and who could be blamed? However, as heavenly as this chocolate is, too much is still bad. We should still eat things in moderation so we won't have to suffer consequences.

Skipping breakfast is a common strategy for losing weight, but not a smart one. Breakfast has always been said to be the most important meal of the day. Whether you work at home, on the farm, at the office, at school, or on the road, it is not a good idea to skip breakfast. Eating a good breakfast sets the tone for the rest of the day.

Why do children always love to eat  chicken?

I know you will be probably asking that same question in mind. No matter how it is being cooked, they will always like it. I have observed with my nieces and nephews how they left the plates empty when their rice (staple food of the Filipinos) is matched with chicken. It may be chicken adobo, fried chicken, buttered chicken, chicken barbecue, roasted chicken, it will always be pleasing to their eating senses. How I love to look at them watching and waiting when will the cooking done and how they would grab a piece of it to eat. I can really tell their heavenly experience during meals with chicken dish on the table.

I've read that parents can keep their children at home for long hours if the children feel the love and care that is suppose to surround there. How will the children feel that love and care? Not just let them feel it but show it by cooking delectable and nutritious viands for them but it must be garnished with perfection, flavored with love and prepared with passion. And there are also those that are selling classic Filipino dishes like balut and bibingka. The latter is so popular here in the Philippines but only few are selling them because it takes a  lot of effort in preparing all the ingredients and the process of baking seems too tricky.

Here's a Bibingka recipe that's hassle-free and so easy to do. I want you to become a Filipino one day by trying this unique and special twist of classic bibingka - with fruits.!

You will need:

2       packs bibingka cake mix (150 g each)
1       can Del Monte Fiesta Fruit Cocktail (439 g)
         drained (reserve syrup)
2       pc eggs
2       tbsp melter butter and margarine
1/4    cup grated Cheddar cheese (optional)
1       pc salted egg, sliced (optional)
         banana leaves

Here's how:

1. Preheat oven toaster. Pass banana leaf over flame until wilted. Line a 5" x 8" pan with two layers of banana leaves, allowing excess to overhang pan edges (or use individual tin pans).

2. In a bowl, combine cake mix with all of the coconut milk powder (included in the pack). Blend well. Add eggs, fruit cocktail syrup and butter. Beat until smooth. Fold in Del Monte Fiesta Fruit Cocktail.

3. Pour into prepared pan. Top with cheese and salted egg, if desired. Cover with aluminium foil.

4. Bake for 40 minutes if using rectangular pan, 15 to 20 minutes if using individual tin pans. Remove foil and bake for another 5 to 7 minutes (or bake in oven at 350 degrees F for 20 minutes).

Magic Chef Win Coolers - The Ideal Wine Cooler For Every Home

Vin rosé, Auberge de La MoleImage via Wikipedia
By Enitan Aje

Wine is not a very tolerant liquid; it gets messed up when exposed to certain conditions. According to scientific research, it has been found that the taste and value of wine can be affected by three major factors which are temperature, light and humidity. When wine is exposed to these three factors in excess, the value of the wine depreciates with time until it actually loses its taste completely. This is why wine coolers are necessary to keep wine under the right conditions, away from too much light, temperature and humidity.

When we make parties, receptions, or gatherings, we like to serve some kind of light refreshment. Ideally, if we had a lot of time and money at our disposal, the menu would be very elaborate, with all manner of gateaux, desserts, fancy mousses, tortes, and other culinary works of art. But for most of us, this is way out of reach. Who has the time and energy to make all of these masterpieces, or the money to buy them?

The Mysterious Adventures of Little Mr. Salaka

Welcome to the World Little Guy
Xavier-Alexander Andrew Salaka born 13:46 on November 11, 2010 3.276kg/7lbs 3.55oz
Thank goodness the 2,000 lb beast known as Google didn't eat this blog. Unfortunately, the original posting of this article on the (realwcs.blogspot.com) was taken down by Google. Despite hiring professional writers to post articles to that blog, Google, in all its wisdom, decided that the blog was somehow a spam blog - 1 year worth of posting (and several grand in writing fees) gone in an instant. After 2 months of trying to talk to them, and no reasoning given, I gave up on re-instating the original blog and reproduced the article here.
Update 2: Awesomeness - Google is just going to town on deleting my blogs. I am about this far from starting a boycott Google campaign.
