Try putting a little ketchup in the batter when you are frying foods. The ketchup can replace milk or egg in your preparation. Dip the food in ketchup before rolling it in breadcrumbs or flour. By using ketchup as a base for your fried foods you will add another unexpected layer and tang to your food.

Do some research about fruits or vegetables you have never cooked with before. You might be surprised how much you can do with that new food. Learning about the foods you're cooking with will make the cooking experience more enjoyable.

They will soak up much of the water, as if they were a sponge. Wipe them off with a damp cloth to clean them.

Use beef or chicken stock in place of water in recipes to make food tastier. Try using boullion cubes and water if you do not have chicken stock. This keeps your foods moist but more flavorful.

Decreasing the amount of oils that you are using when cooking is essential if you are interested in losing weight and eating a healthy diet. Oil or butter add more fat than necessary to your dishes. Nonstick cooking spray is a great alternative that will give you the same end result as the oils with less unhealthy ingredients.

Keep the bone in your roast if you're trying to make it and you have no time to spare. The heat will focus in the bone and cook the meat from the inside. When you are done cooking the roast cut it off the bone.

Give new ways to prepare oysters a shot. Most people eat oysters raw with lemon juice, but you can serve them in other ways. Opened oysters can be placed on a pan appropriate for broiling and covered with a moderate dose of cream. Add some parmesan cheese and some pepper, then broil until the contents of the pan start bubbling. Another option is to saute the oysters. Lightly cover with seasoned flour then fry in some hot butter approximately two minutes or until golden. Keep the oysters in the shells while baking. Put the oysters in a dish, add some butter and crumbs of bread to each oyster, then cook at it 425 degrees. After five minutes, remove it from the oven. Once the butter begins to bubble, enjoy them hot alongside some crusty bread.

Always make sure that the cooking utensils you are about to use are clean before starting any cooking. This is a basic but very important rule for any cook. Any residual food matter missed during washing can spoil the dish you intend to cook. This can also spread harmful bacteria.

Prepare as much as you can ahead of time. Often times, you can get ingredients ready up to several days in advance of when you will be making the meal. Sometimes, the longer window of preparation time can enhance the flavor of your final dish. After you have cooked with advanced prep a few times, you may find it difficult to cook any other way again.

You should limit the amount of seasoning you apply to meat until you have tried it. A lot of dishes require you to season the meat with care. Do not cook it all after seasoning. A better option is to season the small piece and allow it to cook. After you do this you can either completely cook it or add more seasoning as you see fit.

Keep butter or oil used to a minimum when sauteing. Too much liquid in the pan will result in steamed, soggy food and not the crispy texture you were trying to achieve by sauteing. Keep the pan set on a lower temperature.
