Do Braces Work The Same Way As Retainers?

By Michal Adams

What would you be willing to do to own a perfect smile? There are persons who are confounded over the use of braces and retainers. Some immediately conclude that these oral devices function in the same way in treating dental misalignments. It is not often the case, though.

In treating the dental irregularity, the dental brace is the device most normally utilized. This type of device imparts a certain amount of gentle pressure to the teeth to make it move in a specific direction. Correction with a brace can take a long time, usually lasting for a couple of years or more.

Braces can be manufactured from metal, plastic, and ceramics. Metal materials are more available. A number of people choose ceramics or plastic varieties for aesthetic reasons. A dentist could supply details about the component best suited for correcting a person's dental misalignment.

An orthodontist will stick tiny metallic brackets to the teeth. The brackets could also be made out of plastic or ceramics. Arch wires are then placed through the brackets. The wires will serve as the paths that the teeth will follow to achieve a straight alignment.

As time passes, the teeth will shift position. Adjustment to the amount of force accomplished at the orthodontist's clinic will be necessary until the treatment is over.

A retainer is mainly used to keep the dental alignment in place after the dental irregularity has been primarily repaired with braces. The retainers allow the teeth to set into its permanent position. People who presume that retainers are bulky need no longer worry. There are retainer styles out there that allow for optimum comfort and near-invisibility.

A perfect smile is an asset. Still, not many of us grow up to have a perfect set of teeth. Nonetheless, there are devices that we can use to achieve the perfection we hanker for. So, by having braces and retainers to help correct dental misalignments, the person can never be far away now from having a perfect smile!
